Obituary for Evelyn Van Buren (Doremus)

Evelyn  Van Buren (Doremus)
East Greenbush – Evelyn Doremus Van Buren, at rest on April 5, 2013. Loving wife of the late Dr. Steadman Martin Van Buren who died April 11, 2002; dear sister of the late William Doremus whose wife, Virginia of Flemington, NJ survives; dear aunt of Dale Weingarten, Beth King and William Doremus; beloved friend to Diane Fastnaught, Sandra Bianco, Bonnie Hohman, Carol Smith, and Rosemary Shaughnessy as well as many others. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
Evelyn, the daughter of the late Raymond and Asenath Benter Doremus, was born on July 7, 1923 in Newark, NJ. She was raised and educated there and was a 1945 graduate of the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, Canada. Evelyn was employed as a registered nurse from 1947 until her retirement in 1992 and spent the last fifteen years of her career at Samaritan Hospital in Troy from where she retired.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of East Greenbush.
A service, in celebration of Evelyn’s life, will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church of East Greenbush, where the Reverend Bob Lowenthal, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at 1 PM in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Although there will be no public calling hours, friends are invited to attend Evelyn’s service and may also remember her in a special way by sending a donation to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church of East Greenbush, 1 Gilligan Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061-1715.
