Life Story for Ella K. Van Dorn

SCHENECTADY—Ella K. Van Dorn, 87, formerly of Schenectady, passed away September 28, 2013 with her loving family by her side.
Ella was born March 30, 1926 in Hudson, NY. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Matilda Kohn. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1944.
Ella married John W. Van Dorn in Schenectady on August 24, 1947. A lifelong resident of Schenectady until John’s death in 2001, she moved south to enjoy everyday where they both loved to winter at Top of the World in Clearwater, FL.
An extremely dedicated employee, Ella retired from New York Telephone/ AT & T where she worked for many years as an Assistant Chief Operator. She was also a Life Member of the Pioneers Club.
Ella was a devoted lifelong member of Stanford United Methodist Church on State Street in Schenectady. There she held many leadership positions and spent numerous hours on rummage sales, dinners and choir activities.
Grammy Ella enjoyed family, music, live shows, camp at Sacandaga and visits with her surviving children; Sue Ellen DeWeese (Ron) of Rexford, NY, Marta Helen Getman (Ralph) of Waco, TX, and Mark Van Dorn (Susan) of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, RJ, Randy and Radd DeWeese, Sarah, Grant and Grace Getman, Wes, Cara and Max Van Dorn. Let’s not forget great-grandchildren, Justin, Jaxton, Ella Grace, Juliana, Maddox and Kennedy.
A Memorial Service will be held in the near future where Ella will be remembered and reunited with John at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
